CO Ban Kiat Hardware Inc., one of the few pioneering hardware business in the country who have continued to withstand the test of time. It all started in the 1920's when the family patriarch. Mr. Co Ban Kiat acquired business. He began its operations in the heart of Manila Chinatown under the name of CO BAN KIAT Hardware. After World War II in 1945 the business resumed, but it was not till after 3 years later in 1948 that the business recovered and they were able to build the new CBK building on the very same spot were they use to operate before the war. Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries. I'm passionate about making videos and sharing modern Asia to the world. I've traveled everywhere in Vietnam, from Hanoi to Saigon - Far North, Central Highlands, Islands, and Deep Mekong Delta - I've visited there. In addition to ...

How to behave in social situations in Manila. Here are a few customs and etiquette to be aware of during your visit to the Phillipines. Filipinos value honor. The concept of hiya or shame requires one to behave in a manner that will not shame the person or the family. Handshake is common when meeting someone. If elders are present, acknowledge them first. Address people formally indicating their profession or using their last names. In discussions Filipinos tend to be non-confrontational. People will not directly say no. In making appointments, Filipinos tend to be more forgiving. If you arrive 15 to 20 minutes late, unless you are attending a business function. If you ever receive a gift, open it afterwards, not in front of the person who gave it to you. When it comes to tipping, 10 pe...
A brief documentary about Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. Every year, more than 5.5 million tourists take their vacations in the Philippines, and often Manila is their very first stop. Nearly 16 million people live in the Metro Manila area, which is made up of many smaller cities, including Makati, Pasay, Pasig, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, and more. Manila is where big business takes place, where major investments are made, and where residential and commercial real estate is never-ending. Many tourists enjoy the malls, the restaurants, the museums, the nightlife, and even the beautiful Manila Bay. Probably, the biggest tourist attraction is the SM Mall of Asia - the 3rd largest mall in the world. For more details about Manila or the Philippines in general, visit ...

I replace an old CFL ceiling light with a modern LED based ceiling light from NXLED. The previous tenant or perhaps the owner had lost the cover for the original light, so it looked pretty ugly. It would sometimes require switching off and on a few times before it finally lit up and then took awhile to warm up to full brightness. It also caused flicker on my video recordings. I had considered replacing the ceiling light with a regular bulb holder and using modern CFL or LED bulbs but liked the look of the NXLED ceiling lamp and figured it's a more like-for-like replacement for the one it's replacing. I looked at some other brands of ceiling lights that use LED strips which are easy to replace. But I figured it's more likely that the driver would break before the LEDs ever did. The NX...
A DIY hot water shower made using a 2.5 gallon container and a 1000 watt immersion heater. After years of cold showers, I finally decided to look into getting a power shower heater installed. Since I'm renting and a new 30 amp fuse and line would need to be installed, I decided against getting a regular power shower installed. Instead, I bought a 1000 watt fully submersible immersion heater that can happily run on a 10amp circuit, although they still recommend a 30 amp circuit. I didn't want to keep unplugging the immersion heater and a switch isn't suitable since it only breaks one pole. So for safety and convenience I installed an omni mini safety breaker. It takes 4 minutes to get the water to a very hot temperature that is perfect for showering. You should not touch the water whi...
